Before the spin-off of Active Alpha, Silvio Zgraggen was the Portfolio Manager for equity long/short trading at Horizon21 Active Alpha. He joined Horizon21 in 2008.

Previously, Silvio Zgraggen worked at UBS for more than 25 years and consistently achieved major trading profits for the bank. Since 1988 he headed the US Equity Proprietary team at UBS Investment Bank in Zurich and was responsible for one of the firm’s largest proprietary books. In this role he developed his equity long/short trading skills that he currently employs. He also managed a team of proprietary traders that focused on the Swiss market. Over more than ten years, he was the largest market maker in Europe for US stocks during non-US market hours. In 1987, Silvio Zgraggen was appointed Senior Floor Trader at the Swiss Stock Exchange in Zurich, focusing on US equity arbitrage. He started his career after finishing his banking apprenticeship in 1981 as Junior Floor Trader for UBS (formerly SBC) at the exchange. In his early years at UBS, he also worked as a floor trader in Paris. In addition he studied and gathered additional trading experience, e.g. in FX, in New York, Chicago and London.

He holds a degree from the KV Zurich Business School in Zurich.
